Review Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants
The opening preseason game for the New York Giants played yesterday was a giving a game away and taking it back, decided by a strange play at the end of the game.
The New York Giants defensive end Tommie Hill scored on a really bizarre play… It was a 18 yards fumble return as time ran out and the Giants scored a 24-17 victory on their first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. About the scoring play Hill added: “I’ve never seen a game end like that, not that way”.
Fourth-string quarterback Hunter Cantwell tied the game with 57 seconds to play, taking Carolina on an 88-yard drive. He ran for 21 yards and passed for 67 more on the five-play drive that ended with a 31-yards pass made to Jason Chery and a two-point conversion pass made to Andrew Davie.
The Giants could not made the series and punted for 56 yards landing on the Carolina Panthers 18 yard line, with only 10 seconds left on the clock.
When everybody thought that Cantwell was going to knee, he went back to pass and on the next play his arm was hit by Leger Douzable… the ball was on the air and Hill took it and ran to the left corner of the end zone for the winning touchdown.
About the play Hill also added: “I got to run with the ball a couple of times but I haven’t scored since high school”. Hill was a free agent rookie from Colorado State.
“I’m just a rookie trying to make the team,” he said. “Anything like that that helps the team win in turn helps me. It was just a fortunate situation and I made the most of it.” You can call it however you want to, but that helped the team to win for sure.
It’s the exactly same situation for Douzable, who’s a second year pro trying to earn a spot on a solid line. About the winning play he added: “Everybody figured on defense they would take a knee, when they snapped it, I put a move on the guard. I saw the quarterback with the ball in his hand and I got it.”
