Redskins Look to Extend Winning Streak to Two at Cowboys
The Washington Redskins are hardly a thing of beauty this 2009 NFL schedule but they are still a talented team that at times can find a way to win despite themselves. In the team’s week 10 win over a very good Denver team they reminded the world that they will not go into the night quietly and have a chance to make an even bigger statement against the hated NFC East rival Cowboys in week 11.
The Cowboys (6-3) are undoubtedly the better team in this match and have a three game lead over the Skins (3-6). But that hardly makes them a lock to win no matter what the NFL football betting odds might say.
The early NFL football odds have the home team Cowboys favored by 11½ points. That’s a big margin and one that could prove bogus once the teams take the field. The whole world knows of the Skins struggling offense, the inabilities of QB Jason Campbell and the RB Clinton Portis’ concussion woes. It’s no secret that the offense is woeful.
But what makes this ‘Skins team dangerous is the defense which has been best unit so far in the 2009 NFL Schedule against the pass giving up just 162 yards per game in the air. This is due to a combination of the team’s pass rush and terrific man coverage downfield.
If the ‘Skins can pressure Cowboy QB Tony Romo, which is should be able to do, they can force him to make mistakes, which he’s more than capable of doing. Stopping the run will be key for this team and if they can’t the Cowboys win.
The ‘Skins offense will also have to put some points on the board –always a risky proposition- but in a nasty division rivalry the visitors should be able to keep it to within 11½ points.
