Favre at the Lambeau

Brett Favre Minnesota VikingsIn Week 4, Brett Favre passed for 271 yards and three touchdowns as the Minnesota Vikings knocked off the Green Bay Packers, 30-23. The Green Bay Packers have won six of the past seven meetings and have a 49-46-1 overall series edge, including the playoffs.

Both teams were on bye last week. After playing for 16 years with the Packers, Favre heads back to Lambeau Field as an opposing player for the first time. His emotions figure to be high, but he must maintain his focus and keep under control despite his feelings or whatever reaction he gets from the crowd.

The Minnesota Vikings have three starters fighting injuries: Wide receiver Bernard Berrian, middle linebacker E.J. Henderson and cornerback Antoine Winfield. Berrian hurt his left hamstring last week at Pittsburgh. Winfield missed that game because of an injury to his right foot. Henderson’s knee is on the mend. They were all held out of Wednesday’s practice.

The Vikings visit Green Bay this weekend in Brett Favre’s return to Lambeau Field. The quarterback appeared on the injury report with a hip problem, and Favre was listed as limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Another starter, linebacker Ben Leber, was limited in practice because of a calf injury.

In his first game against Favre, Aaron Rodgers seemed too desperate to do something dramatic and make a play. He performed reasonably well, but held onto the ball way too long at times and took a few more chances than usual by forcing throws. As with Favre, Rodgers has to remain patient and execute the system, instead of trying to impress his former teammate and straying from the offense.
Minnesota’s Pro Bowl defensive end had 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a safety in the first game between these teams earlier this year and if he is able to replicate that type of performance, it could be tough for the Packers to overcome.
