Chargers Look to Take a Bite out of the Big Apple

The San Diego Chargers (4-3) and the New York Giants (5-3) are two teams on very different trajectories so far during the 2009 NFL schedule. The G-men jumped out of the gates to a 5-0 start and were the toast of the football world until they dropped three straight. The Chargers stumbled out of the gate with a 2-3 start before winning two in a row and playing themselves back into division title contention.

So what will happen when these two teams meet up for the first time in the 2009 NFL schedule?

This is a very intriguing NFL football betting matchup with no clear outcome. The Giants have lost three games in a row and it seems like a club that is simply too good to drop four straight. But if Eli Manning repeats his performance in those past three games, that’s exactly what will happen.

Manning has completed less than 50% of his passes, he’s tossed 6 INTs, had a passer rating of 55 and averaged just less than 200 ypg during that stretch. That’s in sharp contrast to his hot start and it would seem that he is the barometer of the Giants performance in the NFL football odds. If Eli plays well the Giants win, if he struggles the Giants lose.

The Chargers will do their damndest to make sure he struggles, but unfortunately San Diego does not possess the defensive talent of the Giants’ last three opponents (New Orleans, Arizona and Philly).

But they do possess the better QB in this battle. Phil Rivers has outplayed Eli Manning, his draft class comrade in every way except for winning a Super Bowl. He’s also got a talented set of big play receivers going against a much depleted Giants secondary.

The Giants are 4½ points favorites at home but look for the Bolts to at least cover the spread and for Rivers to have a huge day.
