Preview Jaguars vs. Colts at the Lucas Oil Stadium
On their last meeting the Colts quarterback Peyton Manning completed 29 of 34 passes for 364 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Colts scored 17 unanswered fourth quarter points in a 31-24 win over the Jaguars in Week 16 of the last 2008 season. On their last meeting, the Colts have won 3 of 4 games and they command the overall series 12-4. This will be Jim Caldwell’s first game as Colts head coach after Tony Dungy retired from his job.
With Dungy in charge the Colts became on one of the most successful teams this decade, it’s time for Caldwell he can do it at least the same as good as his mentor. He is getting thrown into the fire immediately against the division rival Jaguars.
This year the Jaguars offensive line looks like will be better than last year… Part of the reason for Jacksonville’s demise last season was that the starting offensive line was decimated by injuries. This year with the unit healthy headed into this season, quarterback David Garrard’s production should be much better, he is coming off a disappointing year, largely because he was constantly under duress.
For the first time in his career Peyton Manning enters a season without his favorite receiver on the history Marvin Harrison to throw to in key moments. Anthony Gonzalez is stepping in on his third season on the NFL to replace Harrison and his chemistry has grown with Manning over the past two seasons. Whether that chemistry ever gets to the level Manning had with Harrison remains to be seen.
Did you knew that CB Rashean Mathis has a franchise record for 25 interceptions in his career. Last year the Colts DE Robert Mathis tied a career-high in sacks with 11.5. … Indianapolis TE Dallas Clark has 17 TD catches over the past two seasons and tied with Antonio Gates for the most in the NFL at that position.
